Singpaore Town lyrics

You could take a little trip around Singapore town
In Singapore city bus
To see Collyer Quay and Raffles Place
The Esplanade and all of us

(Chorus)

Because in Singapore, Singapore
Their hearts are big and wide you’ll find
Because in Singapore, Singapore
You’ll find happiness for everyone

Let’s go down to the riverside, it’s an unforgettable sight
To see the sunrise on a faraway isle, turning darkness into light

(Repeat chorus)

The buildings are climbing all the way to the sky
And there’s a hundred other people who are striving
For people like you and I

(Repeat chorus)

Feedback
- Chap 1
1. Organiser feels that students did an excellent job!
2. Students looked very nice from the gallery.
3. Only one thing to improvement the performance: Please ask them to sing the remix "Stand Up for Singapore" when the choir is introduced.
4. Last week, there were a number of students who were not singing when the camera panned through them. However, if they are still not familiar with the song, please at least open the mouth and mouth something.

- Chap 4
1. Once again, you did an excellent job!
2. There is one comment: When you have to swing the hats in a figure of 8 pattern, please listen to the music and follow the rhythm. It does look a little bit messy each time the figure of 8 pattern appears.

- Chap 5
1. Excellent job once again.
2. Please listen to the music and follow the rhythm. There were a few parts that were a little messy because some are not following the rhythm.

- Chap 8 (Previously known as Chap 7)
1. Well done!

Keep up all the good work! Looking forward to another great show by you!

Cheers,

Mdm Juliana, do you have any NDP preview tickets?

"Mdm Juliana, do you have any NDP preview tickets?"

"Cher, I need 2 preview tickets. Can gimme?"

" Mdm juliana, do you have actual day tickets? My family wants to go..."

"Mdm Juliana, do you have any more tickets for 25july? My friends/ family/ seniors want to go..."

I've received countless sms/ calls about the above questions. Answers to the above questions:

Ans:
- 1. NO! NO! NO!

- 2. I'm not the organiser/ the committee who distributes the NDP tickets to the public. I'm just a teacher, which means I've no control over the number of tickets that WERE GIVEN to our school.

- 3. For the NE show on 25July, organiser gives 2 tickets per participant for each school. So, each school WON'T RECEIVE ANY EXTRA TICKETS.

- 4. I'm very happy to know that your troupe of friends/ family/ relatives/ etc want to go down to the Platform to watch you perform. Bear in mind that Mdm Juliana is not a ticket dispenser. I don't distribute tickets as per your request.

- 5. Mdm Juliana / any other teachers from other schools didn't receive any tickets for the actual day or the preview for the participants. So, to all my dear students, don't ask me again. I'm already very sick lying on the bed coughing like one mad person.

- 6. If you're fighting and arguing over (25July) tickets, I'm very angry and sad. If you are wondering how come somebody has extra tickets and you don't, I also don't know why. Because I only give each of you 2 tickets. If you've promised your friends/ whoever that you can obtain more tickets from me, the answer is still NO! Answer is same as point 4. And initally, you should not even promise your friends at all! What makes you so sure that you will receive the tickets?

- 7. Please don't ask me for any extra tickets. If I really receive, I will definitely tell you. If you don't hear anything from me, means NO TICKETS.

-8. Last but not least, I don't have any actual day / preview tickets.

Cheers,
mdm juliana

This Sat (25July) meeting time

Dear all,

Meeting time for this Sat (25July)

Meet outside general office 1pm. Wear PE/school attire to school. Once reach school, change into custome. Remember wear white shoes to school!!!! And WHITE SOCKS!!!!

The rest of the details are very similar to last week's rehearsal.

Will post again for more details.

Cheers,
mdm juliana

Keep on going...

today i was informed tat you got scolded in d public again last week.

When i was reading d msg, many thoughts appeared on my mind...

Was tat true tat u're scolded... aGAIN?? And what did (some of )you do? Isit u're busy talking wif ya friends n not knowing wat's happening? Or isit something else???...

I was really bothered n started wonder...

Some memories flush back...

During mid february, i brought the 10-12 student leaders to CCA Branch to learn the steps&u're supposed to teach the fellow students. Before u could teach others,u're already scolded by mr.andrew in front of d others. When u're busy playing wif d scarf,i remembered i've scolded u&d only teacher who danced wif u so as to make sure you danced properly. But i understood why mr.andrew had to scold u-cos u're not as good compared to others. It's angry to see some of you're not serious.

And then we started to ve our very own&first training in sch conducted by d student leaders during March Holiday. Attendance was below expectation; student leaders did not really know how to teach -"like that like that like that ... " ; some of you didn't pay attention to the S.L. SO FRUSTRATING!!! Somehow I really wondered - how come eventually I'm stil the one to demonstrate to the students?!?!? Sigh...

We went for the very 1st rehearsal at Amoy Quee Camp ... many uncertainties... Sigh... scolding... Is it you don't understand the instructions? Or not enough practices? Perhaps not enough practices..

Rehearsal after rehearsal ... finally it's in May... Something happened to me in Mid May and I was absent from school for about 2 weeks. I was glad that there're some teachers bringing you there for trainings. But what happened during the trainings?

Honestly, I wish that I don't have to petrol around while you're dancing. It looks weird when other sch' teachers were not walking around to check on their studednts, but I was doing that! I don't know how you feel. Does it mean that when I walk around then you will do better? If no one is watching you, then you anyhow swing?!??!?!

I know you're one of the youngest participants, does it mean that you're the worst ? I asked myself again.

I tell myself - must have faith in my students. Perhaps they need longer time to learn the steps and coordinate their legs, arms and eyes...

One day, I received a call from Mr.Andrew... We talked about you... He felt that you need more time to learn... He said something encouraging in the conversation..." THEY'RE IMPROVING... I can see that THEY'RE TRYING".

Feel a sense of relief and happy immediately... :) :) :)

AFter that we'd rehearsals in Amoy Quee Camp, Kranji Camp and Floating Platform...

Finally, I got the chance to watch NDP show live! It's on 4 July... I was so excited and couldn't wait to run to the Platform asap to get the good seats... I kept on telling my husband and mom that we must go up up up at the seat...

Eventually, we're seating in the middle of the Blue Sector cos the users arranged.

Nonethless, I was very anxious, excited to watch YOU on the stage.

And interestingly, I also received alot of SMSes from you - "Cher, where do you sit? Cannot see you le...", "what shirt are you wearing? Which row? Where r u?", "Have you reach? Why so late?", " Have you reach?", "Is Miss Low/ Miss Ong coming?" "Did Mdm Goh go with you?" ... etc etc etc...

I'm happy and touched to receive your sms and you're eager to see me although I've scolded you in the past (and up till now!).

The show started... Everyone was so excited... I was so excited too, just like the little kids seated behind me... The experience of seating at the Platform is so different from watching you dancing at the backstage... I couldn't feel the atmosphere during the morning rehearsal. But once at night... I could feel the excitement and really impressed by the show - from the beginning till the end. While everyone was cheering, I felt very happy... cos they're cheering for you.

And of course how could I forget when you're waving at me while you're still at the stage?

To all my dear students, you've shown signs of improvement. It's good and encouraging to you and me. It shows that your effort is recognised by others. It shows that you're capable of doing correctly.

Showing improvement is not good enough. You're performing in front of live audience, ministers, and the audience in front of TV. It means your family, friends, teachers, relatives, strangers are watching you. Some of you may think that you've TRIED your best.

You need to DO YOUR BEST, not try your best.

Smile your best
Dance your best
Run your best
Sing your best!
Line up properly to the best!!!

I need all of you to continue giving your best in the upcoming NE shows, NDP Preview and Actualy Day. Many people keep asking me for tickets to watch the performance. They want to watch because they know it's going to be GOOD (and goodie bags) and spectacular!

So from now onwards, I need you to DO YOUR BEST, LISTEN TO INSTRUCTIONS, BEHAVE YOURSELF IN THE PUBLIC.

Keep up the good work. REst early every night. Stay away from friendster/ MSN/ facebook/blogs( but you cannot stay away from THIS blog)/twitter/Maple or other pc games... you have little time left - to spread among your studies, CCAs , family and of course NDP.

See you in school tomorrow.

Take care.

Sleep tight.

Cheers,
mdm juliana

Feeback on NDP NE Show 2

Dear all,

Here are the feedback from the organiser and me:

1. Each week as it goes by, you are getting better and better.
Thank you for the hard work put in so far.

2. Pls remember to be in the full costumes every Sat. Some of you have spotted to have coloured socks and not wearing the correct shoes. The socks must be white.

3. I understand that some of you do not have white shoes because of no sizes available. In this case, pls put on WHITE - BASED SHOES. Please let me know who don't have the white shoes. (So far, I know Wen Jie, Pei Chong do not have the right sizes.. Who else? must tell me)

4. You have to wear the white shoes / white - based shoes at all times. You can't go to the stage bare-footed. It will be very dangerous to you as the stage may be slippery and may fell.

5. Remember to flash you "Darlie" smile throughout the performance. It would be nice for the camera-man to spot you smiling, rather than a sunking face.

6. The Choir (YOU!) looked very vibrant last Sat with your "Big Orange hand props". You did very well and were attentive to Mr.Andrew.

7. Pls sing along with the song when the emcees (Miss Venetta Lopez) introduces the Combined Sch Choir. It will look very strange if the audience can't see you singing when the soundtrack is playing! The song is "Stand Up for Singapore". I will print out the lyrics for you as soon as possible.

8. You looked good for Chapter 4, 5 & 7 on the platform. Mr. Andrew will continue to work with you to refine the choreography = which means there will be ONE additional rehearsal in this week - during weekday - after schoool. Stay tune...

9. Very IMPORTANTLY, pls remember to stand at attention (= stand upright, face in front) during the Pledge and National Anthem. Some of the students were spotted swaying around and turning around to look at the firework while the National Anthem is being sung. You have to recite the pledge and sing the National Anthem.

10. Photos of NDP rehearsals are up on the web. Please visit the website:

11. Two more shows (25July and 1August) to go before the Big day (9 August). Let's perserve on! You and the rest of the participants and all the teachers will survive!!!!

Here are the details:

1. Meeting time, venue and attire:
1pm outside General Office in PE / SCHOOL ATTIRE + white shoes
Be seated in rows neatly - like what we did in previous rehearsal on 11July.

Things to bring to school:
Custome + NDP raincoat + water bottle with water

2. Once teachers have recorded your temperature, go change into your custome in toilet

3. After you've changed into custome, pls seat outside general office and wait for teacher's instructions.

4. Remember when you're in the bus, you can sit anywhere except the 1st and last row. Wear your safety belts at all times in the bus. IT's for your safety.

5. You can bring mobile phones only. Other gaming/ music devices are not allowed. If you're caught using, the banned items will be confiscated by teachers.

6. NO sms-ing / calling/ gaming with your phones while you're walking. It's observed that you're so occupied and don't know what is in front of you.

7. Once you reach F1 pit, it's make - up time.

8. Old Chang Kee fishball, curry puff, ice cream and other food taste absolutely fantastic. Bear in mind your dinner is ~ 4.30pm. Save your stomach for dinner.

9. Always take care of your props: "Big Orange Hands", "Big Red Hat" and yellow scarf.

10. Always listen to teachers' instructions, talk S.O.F.T.L.Y. and walk in 2 rows N.E.A.T.L.Y.

Have enough rest of Friday.

Cheers,

mdm Juliana's reflection on NE1 show

Pls read the reflection below if you've a strong heart and thick skin.

The 1st NE show ended at 8.30pm on 11 July, Sat. It's certainly a memorable performance for audience; an unforgettable rehearsal for all participants, teachers, backstage crews, SAF staffs and many others.

It's the 1st time we'd a heavy downpour at the last 15 minutes of the show.

When all of you were on the stage, I couldn't help but wonder what's happening on the stage... will you catch a cold? Or will anyone of you slip and fall down? Or perhaps you may be dancing in the rain? Or may be shievering? Many questions appear on my mind.

When I saw all of us ran down from the stage, the answer was clear. You've enjoyed the downpour but of course worried for our mobile phones / cameras more than yourselve.

Everyone started to throw his/her phones into a big plastic bag, I guess your props - the big hat should help by preventing the rain falling into the big plastic bag.

We seek shelter under the Platform and hoping to hop onto the bus immediately. Endless waiting that drove some of us impatient. Some of you were so excited over the downpour and started to be "Merlion"; some took photos of our "wet look" some stood under the rain and imaged yourselve under the waterfall. It may be fun to you to be a "merlion". But is DEFINITELY not a funny sight to be seen by other secondary school students and teachers! You've no idea how shocked I was! It's already chaotic at that moment and there's still a "merlion"!?!?!?!?!?! My blood pressure really shot up!

Some of you went toilet without informing me or Mr.Goh and eventually got scolding from me. I'm not sure if you know my intention. As a teacher, when the area was dark and cold, it's important and necessary for everyone to stay togeter as a cluster. However, at that point of time, some of you were scattered and seemed like can't hear the instruction! Some of you were so engrossed in whatever you're doing. What if we have moved to the exit and you can't see us moving? You will be left stranded at that area! No bus will pick you up! NO BUS! And we teachers/ students have to search for you high and low! Do you get it?

While everyone's busy with himself or herself, suddenly one of our students started to feel cold. At once, 8 students took off their scarfs and wrapped around him to keep him warm. Everyone croweded around him to keep him warm. But somehow, they've forgotten that their scarfs were wet! Immediately, they took off all the wet scars and his costume. Around 8 students were standing around him to keep him warm. (Hope that none of us fart at that time). It's certainly a heartwarming sight to see everyone is trying his/ her best to keep him warm although they may be cold too...

Finally,we're back to the F1 pit ... Thanks to Miss Elsa who arranged all your bags neatly on the chairs. And we arranged all your phones and wallets on the table. Once you see your phones, it seems like you've lost your senses and wanted to grab your stuff immediately. HEY! Mr.Goh and Miss Elsa asked you to WAIT! DEAR ALL, we really need you to L.I.S.T.E.N and F.O.L.L.O.W instructions! I'm not sure if they're angry with your behaviours. But a YES from me. You've gotta learn to be patient!

Sometimes, I wonder if you understand this sentence -"line up in 2 rows"... It's a common sight to have 1 lump / 1 cluster/ 3 rows. Certain part of the 2 rows will be untidy after awhile. For the future NE shows/Preview/actual day, I would expect you to LINE UP IN 2 ROWS NEATLY AT ALL TIMES. I believe all of you can do it. Show me!

Next, Old Chang Kee fishballs and curry puffs taste great. Bear in mind that you have to eat your dinner ~ 4.30pm. It costs money to prepare food for you. It's a waste if you didn't eat the dinner prepared by you. So, from next rehearsal onwards, try to finish up all your dinner.

Ah, one more thing! F1 pit is F1 pit but not "Block 401 playground". Pls walk, not run and play catching.

Some of you feel that I'm being harsh to you and don't know why get scolded. Think!

Certainly, I don't want to scold you. Do you know that it takes energy to scold??? It upsets me too. My intention to scold you, is to point out the incorrect behaviours/ act and would want you to do the right one. Ask yourself - would you rather to be scolded by others right in front of the rest of the participants or by me?

How did you feel when you're being scolded in front of so many particpants on last Sat? Why did others get praised? Why are we considered the not-so-good one?

Honestly, I do feel very upset/ lousy when you're scolded on the stage in front of so many participants.

DSC07542

SO, REFLECT!!! (just like the 2 boys in the photos)...

NE2 is on this Sat, 18 July. I will let you know the meeting time and other details.

Of course there're some positive things I want to praise all of you. Gimme some time to type ...

Btw, I've uploaded to 2 online albums - in flickr and google. Here is a slideshow from google:
